Kaladi : At a distance of only 9 km from Alway and 45 km from Kochin Kaladi is famous as the birth place of Adi Sankaracharyya. On the bank of the brook Parier river and covered with rows of coconut trees shining with artistic work Kaladi is not possible to go by train. The only means to go there by bus or by boat. It is heard that, in the middle of 9 th century attaming the age of superannuation Chermal Perumal the King of Malabar moved towards Makke leaving his kingdom. At the time of departure he distributed his own kingdom to his ministers and commanders. Then he also gifted to Jomorin Tamuri of Kolikot an area of land in all sides of the temple of Talli up to a cock’s crowing distance from the temple. At the end of the midival age a special quality of printed cloth made of India exported in the Europin Countries for sale by sailing ship. At that time the name of the port was kalikot. Then it was famous as a tourist centre and a industrial centre as well. Obtaining the landed property from the King of Kalikot the English constructed here their business centre.
