about Kalikot
It is heard that, in the middle of 9th
century attaming the age of superannuation Chermal Perumal the King of Malabar
moved towards Makke leaving his kingdom. At the time of departure he
distributed his own kingdom to his ministers and commanders. Then he also
gifted to Jomorin Tamuri of Kolikot an area of land in all sides of the temple
of Talli up to a cock’s crowing distance from the temple.
At the end of the midival age a
special quality of printed cloth made of India exported in the Europin
Countries for sale by sailing ship. At that time the name of the port was
kalikot. Then it was famous as a tourist centre and a industrial centre as
well.
Obtaining the landed property from
the King of Kalikot the English constructed here their business centre. Latter
here appeared the Dutches, the France and the Partugig one after another.
In the year 1765 AD. Hyader Ali
attacked the Kalikat and ruined the port city ceverely.
In the year 1615 AD the English
businessmen started their business in full swing after getting permission from
the king’s sucessors. Being contracted with Tipu Sultan, son of Hydar Ali the
English get the total responsibility of the Kalikot.
Recently though the Kalikot is one
of the business city of India, they boat manufacturing factory here is
considered as a largest and the best.
