Palace : At present the palace is situated at Tamilnadu and
not in Kerela. As it is advantageous to visit from here, it has come to
discussion in this chapter. Travellers should visit the Padmanavapuram palace
while traveling the State Keral. It is situated at a distance of 44km south
near the National highway from the capital Tirubantapuram. On the way to
Kanyakumari getting down from the bus at thukali only 2km away Padmanavapuram
is situated. From the bus stand riksha or auto is available and is also
possible to go on foot. From Tirubantapuram buses of conducted tour coming here
and 2 hours time is sufficient for this. So staying here is not necessary and there
is no arrangement for staying here. In front of the palace there are shops for
tea, tiffin, or betel leaf.
During
the reign of Tribankur Kings, Padmanavapuram was Capital City. According to the
historians it was built on 1550AD. It is not sufficient to say it as palace but
should say palace fort. The Feature of the palace is contemporary wooden
artistic work. Without seeing the palace by one’s own eyes it is not possible
to make other understand properly whether it is possible to make prominent such
an astonishing and unbelievable artistic work by engraving wood. Any art lover
must consider it as attractive seeing the mural painting of different parts of
the palace. In a large room of the palace arranged an exhibition. Many
historical rememberance during the reign of Tribankur and afterwords are
preserved here carefully. Among the other things to be seen here may be
mentioned are the weapons of king and his family, dresses etc.
The
family deity of Tribankur family Ramswami Temple, which was built in Comparison
of old architecture and artistic work by the side of the palace is also be
attractive to the visitors. In 45 pannels of the temple engraved the story of
the Ramayan (used the original Sanskrit Stanza) on the Sand stone is
astonishing. Monday remain closed. On otherdays it remain open for the public
from 9am to 5pm. Fees Rs 5.00 only.
